10.30am – 12pm,
Sunday 8th March
Timeless Textiles Gallery
90 Hunter St, Newcastle 2300

This International Women’s Day, we are hosting the 2020 Fearless Flower Market auction. All proceeds from this auction will support the Pink Meets Teal initiative, raising money to support Ovarian Cancer research.

Join us at Timeless Textiles Gallery (90 Hunter St Newcastle) for a free morning tea, live music, fun and, of course, fundraising!

“Every cent from the market goes to a charity – this one is the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) for Nikola Bowden’s research, which is very cutting-edge about ovarian cancer treatment options.”

“There will be music, food, and a celebration of being women; everyone is welcome!”

– Anne Kempton, Timeless Textiles

Saturday Feb 29 – Saturday March 7

During the first week of March some our city centre’s heartfelt destinations will be sprinkled with bunches of fibre art flowers as part of this year’s Timeless Textiles led initiative FEARLESS FLOWERS 2020, getting ready for International Women’s Day.

Many of the hand worked flowers have been made from recycled materials sourced and donated from local independent businesses (a group known as the Makers & Traders of Newcastle) including recycled aprons from Estabar cafe, felt homewares off-cuts from Make Space, garment remnants from High Tea with Mrs Woo and paper offcuts from Monsoon Living.
Between Sat 29th February and the 7th March windows and shops throughout the city will swell with beautiful displays of these artful flower bunches. The public will be invited to wander and explore the Flower Art Trail and A People’s Choice competition will be held to decide who wins the best display (with a prize giveaway of an intimate dinner for 2 from Subo).
Download the City of Newcastle app to find all the Fearless Flowers on our interactive Walking Trail.

Pink Meets Teal is a community of women who want to see the five-year survival rate of just 46% for ovarian cancer reach the phenomenal 91% survival rate for breast cancer.

Ovarian cancer takes the lives of 1,000 Australian women every year but is one of the most under-funded cancers receiving four times LESS than breast cancer.

Pink Meets Teal acknowledges and applauds the tremendous outcomes in the fight against breast cancer and believe that with similar commitment and resources we can achieve the same success for ovarian cancer.

We call on all women, especially breast cancer survivors, to help us in this challenge by demanding funding fairness for ovarian cancer.

We call on governments and donors to look below the waist when it comes to cancer funding and give researchers the money they need to come up with a screening test, clinical trials and better treatment options for ovarian cancer.

Who are the Makers X Traders?

We’re a group that began to meet over coffee to share our journeys, our aspirations and how we were faring in our rapidly evolving city.

Stories of community engagement, sustainable supply practices and the fostering of creative communities we found uplifting and fortifying in challenging times.

Ideas quickly began to emerge for projects that we could tackle as a group that were beyond us as individual businesses.

We are proud to be part of a city we believe has an incredibly creative DNA and would love to invite you become a member of our association.
